Collage of the sixteen ISHARE investigators

Meet our talented lead investigators.

We are thrilled to announce our international consortium of researchers. These eighteen investigators from eight countries will lead seventeen research projects. The ISHARE organizers, Drs. Tissot van Patot, Keyes, and Brodmann, will collect data on oxygen saturation, hormones, blood parameters (including hemoglobin and electrolytes), and Acute Mountain Sickness scores, and share it with all investigators. Each investigator will collect a unique set of data related to their area of expertise and correlate it with the core data collected by the organizers. Because physiological processes do not exist in isolation but are endlessly interconnected, investigators will have the opportunity to combine data from all these projects in a variety of ways to generate a significant amount of unique data on women of varying ages and origins and how they adapt to altitude, cold and expedition conditions. Please visit our ISHARE website to learn more about these fascinating projects.

Program and Operations Organizer
Shalynn Howard is a highly experienced project manager who works with international scientific research teams. We are fortunate to have her volunteer as our Project Manager. Read her bio here.

Meet Our Expedition Guides! Three of the most accomplished female mountain guides in the world have joined us. Our lead guide, Anne-Aylin Sigg, is an IFGMA-certified guide, a physician and co-president of the Swiss Society of Mountain Medicine. Adele Pennington was the first British woman to climb Mount Everest twice and holds the British female record for climbing six of the fourteen 8000m peaks. Uta Ibrahimi was the first person from Kosovo to summit Mount Everest, and in 2025, she became the 14th woman in the world to complete all 14 peaks above 8,000 meters. Read more about these extraordinary women here.

Sharing ISHARE
Organizer Dr. Monika Brodmann presented information about ISHARE to participants in the DiMM (Diploma in Mountain Medicine) course run by the Swiss Society for Mountain Medicine, sparking strong interest among more than 50 young doctors who are keen mountaineers.

Participants
As previously announced, the application deadline to be a trekker or climber was July 30, 2026. We are thrilled to announce that we had approximately 350 applicants for our 30 trekker and 20 climber spots. After reviewing the applications, we found so many qualified people that we have to select trekkers and climbers by lottery. While we are very grateful for the interest and support in ISHARE's work, we are also disappointed to have to deny so many wonderful people. Notices of acceptance, waitlist and rejection will go out on September 28, 2026. We offer our most sincere thanks to everyone for their support of this important and historic expedition. We hope to keep in touch with those who were not selected and find a way to keep them involved in ISHARE.
